Putin Signs Law Allowing Communications Shutdowns at FSB Request

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed legislation requiring telecommunications operators to suspend services if instructed by the Federal Security Service (FSB), with the specific circumstances to be detailed in presidential regulations, according to reports.

Under the new law, operators will not face liability for network outages that occur in compliance with an FSB directive.

The legislation was passed in its third and final reading by the State Duma on Tuesday.

According to an accompanying explanatory note, the measure aims to safeguard security in areas under FSB responsibility and to support counter-terrorism efforts.
